Transformer oil spill in the Licking Watershed

Report spills and environmental emergencies to Ohio EPA 24-hours a day, 365 days a year




Licking Watershed: On October 8th, an unreported amount of transformer oil was released off North 5th St in Newark, Licking County.
Cuyahoga Watershed: On October 7th, unreported amounts of fuel and motor oil was released on Memphis Ave in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County.
Little Miami Watershed: On September 7th, 50 gallons of propylene glycol was discharged along Seward Rd in Fairfield, Butler County. Again on October 7th, unreported amounts of petroleum oil and 75 gallons of diesel was released along OH-71 in Washington Township, Warren County.
Upper Scioto Watershed: On October 7th, 1 gallon of lithium was released on Sawyer Rd in Columbus, Franklin County. Lastly, unreported amounts of trade name mixture and tetrachloroethylene was released between North 4th and 3rd St in Cardington, Morrow County.
Lower Maumee Watershed: On October 7th, unreported amounts of alcohol was released along the Grand Army of the Republic Hwy in Weston Township, Wood County.
Tuscarawas Watershed: On October 7th, 100 gallons of diesel was released in Dover Township, Tuscarawas County.

Spills, fish kills, rainbow sheen and releases of contaminants in the state of Ohio as reported to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Environmental Response. Users of this data should be aware that inconsistencies and inaccuracies may exist if these data are compared to data from other time periods due to changes in methods of data collection and mapping.
WTOH reports spills from OEPA with the following features: 
  • 40 gallons or more of petroleum product
  • toxic chemical materials, corrosives spills of any amount
  • all spills impacting water
Spills marked with asterisk are followed up with Ohio EPA authorities for additional information on the clean-up and recovery, including notices of violation and charges under State environmental statutes, federal charges under the Clean Water Act.
