Drought relief continues, Grand River watershed improved from moderate drought to below normal rating

Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS monitoring sites in the rivers and creeks of Ohio
Cloudy, high of 50 today for Lake Erie drainage basin in northern Ohio, the word out of NWS Cleveland forecast office. Streamflows are back to seasonal normal most locations statewide Friday, the odd station records below normal in each major basin, a record low still showing on the Olentangy River near Delaware with all nearby gauges in the Scioto River basin rated normal. Moderate drought is left on just one of 32 watersheds of Ohio Friday, the Ohio River minor tributary Raccoon-Symmes is still rated moderate drought based on 7-day average streamflow values. Grand River watershed has recovered to a below normal rating overnight, adjacent Cuyahoga River watershed is unrated in the northeast. Muskingum River basin and Upper Ohio minor tributaries remain below normal, along with Lake Erie northwest watersheds St Josephs, Tiffin River, Lower Maumee River and Sandusky River watershed, all rated below normal. Great Miami and Scioto basins are completely clear of the drought map. See the map to the right for 1st percentile extreme low flows, marked up with red-brown location tags.

WT HAB Tracker
from the satellite monitoring program of the NOAA National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science(NCCOS)

The latest upload from NCCOS was captured Nov 13 at surface wind speed 23 mph. This image is clear with a good view to the shorelines and open water of Lake Erie. There are localized HABs along the Ohio shoreline from Port Clinton to Catawba Island, small open water HABs in Sandusky Bay and a large area of dispersed HAB mats east of Sandusky Bay, the concentration is low, 100 thousand cells per ml or less. High wind is a factor for submerging the bloom mats.
