Low flows in Muskingum River basin promote severe drought

Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS monitors in Ohio

Sunny and clear, high of 60 today in the Lake Erie drainage basin area says NSW Cleveland. Streamflows remain well below the seasonal norms, another extreme low 1st percentile flow popping up in the Muskingum River basin. Moderate drought clings to the adjacent watersheds Little Muskingum and Shade Rivers. Hocking River watershed has been downgraded from moderate drought to below normal. Ohio River minor tributary Raccoon-Symmes watershed is rated below normal. North of the drainage divide, the Upper Maumee and Auglaize River watersheds remain in severe drought, Lower Maumee watershed is in moderate drought with adjacent watersheds in below normal moisture mode. WT HAB Tracker
from the satellite monitoring program of the NOAA National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science(NCCOS)

The latest upload from NCCOS was captured Oct 23 at surface wind speed 18 mph, the west half of the image is cloud obscured as was the prior image Oct 22. The high wind conditions at the time of the photo have submerged the bluegreen mat, all we see in this latest image are dispersed clumps in Sandusky Bay. The prior image Oct 22 was taken at a lower wind speed, still cloud obscured on the west shore, shows Sandusky Bay HAB widespread in the inner bay area from Pickerel Point to OH-269 at high concentration 700 thousand cells per ml. Dispersed open water HABs in the outer bay area from OH-269 to Cedar Point are low concentration, 100 thousand cells per ml or less. A large area of open water bloom sits off shore east of Sandusky Bay, the concentration is low, 100 thousand cells or less.
