Low flows persist in Muskingum River basin
Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS monitors in Ohio
Streamflow levels are still below to much below normal statewide Sunday with the same three stations in Muskingum River basin rated low, two of these are extreme, record lows again today.
Grand River and Tiffin River watersheds remain in severe drought mode Sunday, these are Lake Erie watersheds located in the northeast and northwest, respectively. Adjacent watersheds around both of these severe drought areas run below normal. South of the drainage divide, Upper Ohio River minor tributary Mahoning is below normal, Wheeling Creek watershed is back to normal. Downstream, the Ohio River tributary Shade River has escalated to moderate drought overnight with adjacent Raccoon-Symmes watershed below normal. Little Muskingum River watershed is rated below normal, the bottom end of the Muskingum basin where the Muskingum River watershed remains in moderate drought. The better part of Muskingum River basin in east central Ohio is still rated below normal, including Tuscarawas River watershed in the upper basin and Hocking River in the lower basin. Scioto basin takes on a below normal rating in Paint Creek watershed. Great Miami basin remains unrated on the drought map.

The latest upload from NCCOS was captured Oct 12 at surface wind speed 9.6 mph, a mostly cloud obscured image. The west Michigan shoreline is visible with blobs of bluegreen appearing all along the shore, not too concentrated anywhere, the highest concentration is widespread in North Maumee Bay 600 thousand cells per ml. The remaining localized HABs along the Michigan shore are below 100 thousand cells per ml. A prior image Oct 10 was the first picture caught at low enough wind speed to really see the full extent of the HABs. Maumee Bay appeared clear of bluegreen from Maumee River outlet and approximately 4 nm north toward North Maumee Bay before an open water HAB appears at low concentration 100 thousand cells per ml. Maumee Bay State Park shows off a widespread HAB mass 2 nm off shore in the east end of the park, at the low concentration 100 thousand cells per ml or less. A dense band of HAB approximately half a nm wide spotted along shore from Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge along the Ohio shoreline to Catawba Island becoming widespread around Port Clinton and a bit higher concentration, 300 thousand cells per ml. Sandusky Bay was stuffed full of HAB at the high concentration 700 thousand cells per ml. Widespread HAB appeared outside of Sandusky Bay Cedar Point past Vermilion-on-the-Lake from the shoreline extending one to two nm into open water, the concentration was low, 100 thousand cells per ml.

Safe Drinking Water Advisories
Logan County: Russells Point Village Public Water System issued a BWA for customers on Burkhart Avenue and The Gathering Grounds Coffee Shop following a water main break on Thursday. These rate-payers will be boiling their water until the potability is confirmed by two consecutive clear water tests from the lab. Russells Point Village Public Water System serves 1651 customers from a groundwater source in the Upper Great Miami River watershed. The facility was last inspected Jan 2023, the EPA records non-compliance issues in 12 of the last 12 inspection cycles, including a monitoring violation under the revised total coliform rule, monitoring and reporting violation of the Stage 2 disinfectants and by-products of disinfection rule and an ongoing unaddressed consumer confidence rule violation.
