Maumee Bay State Park algal toxin advisory rescinded

WT HAB Tracker from the satellite monitoring program of the NOAA National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science(NCCOS), Cyanobacteria Assessment Network (CyAN) and State sources where available

Lake Erie west basin
Maumee Bay State Park algal toxin advisory has been rescinded overnight. A water sample taken Sept 17 tested below 1 ug/L, a follow up sample taken Sept 24 must have been below 8ug/L in order for the advisory to be lifted. Four permanent algal toxin advisories remain in force for Grand Lake, some of the highest microcystins counts of the season found in the latest round of sampling. New Richmond Boat Ramp in the Ohio River, Clermont County high bacteria advisory has also been rescinded.

The latest upload from NCCOS satellite was captured Sep 25 at wind speed 13.1 mph, a partially clear view of Lake Erie west basin. Bluegreen algae has been filling the Portage River, now appearing to fill the channel from the Lake Erie outlet and three miles upstream. See the latest Ohio HAB Tracker report, here.
HAB concentration in Maumee Bay State Park has dropped under 1 million cells per ml for the first time in weeks, the widespread bloom there still extends from off shore to 5 nm into open water. North Maumee Bay and Maumee River outlet are down in concentration with no hot spots seen in any part of the west basin.

Sandusky Bay and Muddy Creek Bay widespread HABs appear as dispersed mats 800 thousand cells per ml. The widespread HAB outside Cedar Point has diminished in extent and concentration, down to 50 thousand cells per ml. Widespread HAB south of Pelee Island appears at the low concentration also, 50 thousand cells per ml. See the NCCOS image here.

Streamflow Situation from the USGS network of streamflow gauges in Ohio
Ohio streamflows are up across the dashboard Friday, drainage basins and watersheds both sides of the drainage divide now recording normal to above normal levels. Following an extended dry period building up to severe drought in several watersheds, the current streamflow situation retains a dozen below normal and a handful of much below normal cases remaining through central Ohio, cutting across all the south flowing drainage basins. As of this report, no extreme high or low flows in the network.

Most surface area of Ohio is still rated on the drought map as reported Thursday with relief coming to watersheds in the north, Lake Erie basin and south, the Ohio River - Mississippi River basin. Unrated area today includes Upper Great Miami and Upper Scioto River basins, unrated. Shade River watershed remains at severe drought, along with Wheeling Creek watershed. Lake Erie basin's Lower Maumee watershed has dropped down from severe drought to moderate drought, adjacent Tiffin River watershed remains in severe drought.
