Bluegreen growing in Portage River
WT HAB Tracker from the satellite monitoring program of the NOAA National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science(NCCOS), Cyanobacteria Assessment Network (CyAN) and State sources where available
Lake Erie west basin
The latest upload from NCCOS satellite was captured Sep 25 at wind speed 13.1 mph, a partially clear view of Lake Erie west basin. Bluegreen algae has been filling the Portage River, now appearing to fill the channel from the Lake Erie outlet and three miles upstream. See the latest Ohio HAB Tracker report, here.
HAB concentration in Maumee Bay State Park has dropped under 1 million cells per ml for the first time in weeks, the widespread bloom there still extends from off shore to 5 nm into open water. North Maumee Bay and Maumee River outlet are down in concentration with no hot spots seen in any part of the west basin.
Sandusky Bay and Muddy Creek Bay widespread HABs appear as dispersed mats 800 thousand cells per ml. The widespread HAB outside Cedar Point has diminished in extent and concentration, down to 50 thousand cells per ml. Widespread HAB south of Pelee Island appears at the low concentration also, 50 thousand cells per ml. See the NCCOS image here.
Maumee Bay State Park remains under an algal toxin advisory. The latest water sample taken Sept 17 tested below 1 ug/L. A subsequent sample below 8ug/L is required before the advisory can be rescinded. Four permanent algal toxin advisories remain in force for Grand Lake, some of the highest microcystins counts of the season found in the latest round of sampling. All Lake Erie beaches have been cleared of high bacteria advisories. New Richmond Boat Ramp in the Ohio River, Clermont County is the last bacteria advisory in force today.

Streamflow Situation from the USGS network of streamflow gauges in Ohio
Ohio streamflows are variable Thursday, from record high flows in the north to record low flows in central watersheds and everything in between. See the brown tags on the map to the right for 1st percentile low flows.
Most surface area of Ohio is rated on the drought map Thursday. Unrated area includes part of the Lake Erie drainage basin in the northeast, the Lower Great Miami River watershed and Upper Scioto River watershed. Shade River watershed has stepped down from extreme to severe drought, the adjacent Hocking River and Muskingum River watersheds down from severe to moderate drought. In the Lake Erie drainage basin northwest, we have Tiffin River and Lower Maumee watersheds at severe drought. In the Ohio River minor tributaries, Wheeling Creek watershed is in severe drought. Downstream Ohio River tributary Raccoon-Symmes and the Scioto basin's Tygarts watersheds have recovered from moderate drought to below normal from Lawrence County to east Scioto County.
