Lake Erie west basin
A new upload from NCCOS captured Sep 12 at wind speed 6.6 mph is mostly clear, the concentrations in the massive bloom are lower in this image than reported here the last few days. Maumee Bay is the high concentration hot spot in the west basin today at 1 to 2 million cells per ml, this being right around the outlet of Maumee River. This is down considerably from yesterday's report of 2 to 3 million cells per ml, 1 million cells up in North Maumee Bay. Maumee Bay State Park has settled right down, 1 million cells per ml on the west side of the beach area down to 600 thousand cells in the east beach area, the lower concentration extends around Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge, a band 5 nm wide runs east along shore dissipating before Toussaint River outlet. A narrow band of HAB along shore at Camp Perry measures around the 300 thousand cells per ml concentration. Sandusky Bay Aphanizomenon HAB is broken up into dispersed mats around 700 thousand cells per ml. A block of HAB extending lakeside of Cedar Point occupies a ten by ten nm area at a moderate concentration around 100 thousand cells per ml. See the latest Ohio HAB Tracker update, here.
