Streamflow Situation from the USGS network of streamflow gauges
Tracking Francine: Downgraded to a Tropical Depression, the storm is losing intensity as it moves over land, down to 35 mph, bearing north through Mississippi. The outlook is clear and sunny today in Cleveland, partly cloudy today in the south with no hazardous weather in the forecast. USGS network of streamflow monitors in Ohio continue to register below normal to much below normal volumes in creeks and rivers statewide, two extreme low flows coming up in the south. Severe drought remains on the Lower Maumee River and Hocking River watersheds, moderate drought rating is applied to the Lake Erie basin's Auglaize and Blanchard Rivers watersheds, the Wills Creek watershed, the Ohio River minor tributary Raccoon-Symmes watershed. As of this report, there are no extreme high flows recorded in the network.

WT HAB Tracker
from the satellite monitoring program of the NOAA National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science(NCCOS), Cyanobacteria Assessment Network (CyAN) and State sources where available

Lake Erie west basin
Lake Erie west basin is revealed in a clear, full color satellite image from NCCOS, captured Sept 11 at a much lower wind speed than the last few images supplied by NCCOS, this one caught at 3 mph. Maumee Bay has picked up some heat over the prior 24 hours, a hot spot of 2 to 3 million cells per ml has popped up along the west shore. The HAB runs 1 million cells per ml from the outlet of the Maumee River to the vicinity of the Toledo City water intake. Another high concentration spot appears in Maumee Bay State Park laying right along shore at the midpoint of the beach, 2 to 3 million cells per ml. Sandusky Bay Aphanizomenon HAB is widespread in the bay 800 thousand cells per ml. Widespread HAB east of Sandusky Bay around Sandusky City drinking water intake extends in a block 10 by 10 nm at 200 thousand cells per ml. See the latest Ohio HAB Tracker update, here.

Symptoms of exposure to cyanotoxins include skin irritation and gastrointestinal upset in humans, and rapid demise for pets. The presence of bluegreen algae is not always indicative of cyanotoxins, this can only be established through water testing. Presumption of the presence of the toxins with the bluegreen algae is a cautious approach to public safety, given the health risk. Cyanotoxins damage vital organs, the signs of which may not be felt until damage is done. Find the US EPA national beach advisories dashboard, here.
