Safe Drinking Water Advisories
South Zanesville: The Village of South Zanesville water issued a BWA following repair of a leaking water main yesterday. Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS streamflow gauges in Ohio
Another watershed has accelerated into severe drought status overnight in east-central Ohio. Wills Creek watershed drains Guernsey County, a rated streamflow monitoring station at Cambridge in service since 1938, along with a cluster of unrated stations monitoring tributary creeks in the area indicate this watershed is in severe drought conditions, a step up from the moderate drought rating over the weekend. Severe drought remains on the Ohio River minor tributary Raccoon-Symmes watershed and adjacent Muskingum River basin's Hocking River watershed impacting Hocking and Athens Counties. Lower Maumee River watershed also remains in severe drought depth Monday flanked by Blanchard and Auglaize Rivers drainage areas rated moderate drought. The area rated below normal remains as reported on the weekend, including Upper Great Miami, Little Miami River, Paint Creek, Lower Scioto River watersheds are rated below normal. Wills Creek watershed is tagged with moderate drought, impacting Guernsey County. Tuscarawas and Mohican River watersheds remain below normal in the east central Muskingum River basin.

HAB Tracker from satellite monitoring program of the National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science
Lake Erie west basin image is revealed in a clear, full color satellite image from NCCOS, captured Sunday Sept 8 at a high wind speed, 16.1 mph. West and south shorelines from north of Monroe, Michigan to Vermilion-on-the-lake in Ohio are blanketed with a HAB layer from ten nautical miles wide in the west and tapering down to less than a mile by Marblehead, increasing to 20 miles wide by Huron and Vermilion-on-the-lake. The high wind speed indicates we may not be seeing the full extent of this bloom as the edges may be submerged out of sight. Maumee Bay at Toledo to North Maumee Bay run 1.5 to 2 million cells per ml, the highest concentration found in Maumee Bay State Park's east end wrapping around Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge all the way to the Metzger and Magee Marsh Wildlife Areas with 2 to 3 million cells per 100 ml. Sandusky Bay Aphanizomenon HAB has filled in all open water possibilities and stepped up in concentration, 1 million cells per ml. The area east of Sandusky Bay is cloaked in bluegreen, including the area around Sandusky City drinking water intake at a lower concentration, 300 to 400 thousand cells per ml. See the latest Ohio HAB Tracker update, here.

Environmental Protection
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) issues permits to industrial and municipal operations for discharge of treated wastewater to the waterways of the state in accordance with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and local laws. WTOH.us plots emergency spill incidents with potential to impact drinking water sources, tagged in pink on the map to the right along with drinking water advisories, high flow and flood incidents. Switch on the watershed layer and directional arrows to see where impact may be felt downstream.

OEPA monitors compliance with NPDES. When discharge permits are violated through intent or negligence, criminal charges can be laid under the Clean Water Act. The US EPA Criminal Enforcement Forensics and Training Unit has the full powers of investigation and enforcement for the Clean Water Act, working with State authorities for environmental justice.
