WT USA Flows and Flood Tracker provisional data from the network of USGS streamflow monitors

Forty-nine streamflow gauges are in flood midday Monday, down from fifty this morning. Three gauges in the US network indicate flooding in the WT coverage area, one in Georgia, and two in Louisiana.

Georgia: Satilla River is the last river recorded above flood stage in the latest flood event, ending in similar fashion to the 50-day spring flood where Satilla River monitored in Atkinson County was the last flooding observed on the network in Georgia. Satilla River collects surface water runoff from 2790 square miles in the Atlantic basin, currently recorded at two feet three inches above flood stage at Atkinson County on Memorial Day morning, just an inch lower than recorded here on Saturday morning. Louisiana dropped another flood event from the record Monday, down to two last stations above flood stage Memorial Day. Region 5 watershed Mermentau River got back inside the channel this morning as we were completing the morning flood outlook. The water level bounced around flood stage up and down for a few hours this morning, looking to stay out of the flood business for now at Mermentau. Bayou Bodcau is recorded down another inch, just four inches above flood stage now near Shreveport, the lowest recorded value here in months and a far cry from peak level ten feet above flood stage in April. Region 4 has one flood event left on the dashboard, border Sabine River continues to flood near Ruliff, TX, between nine and ten inches out of the channel. As many drinking water facilities are supplied from surface water reservoirs, the streamflow situation is pertinent to both drinking water supply and quality. High flows can stir up sediment and cause turbidity in the reservoirs, requiring additional treatments to render the water potable. Low flow volume is linked to warmer temperatures in the reservoir and can be an issue for water quality where HABs are present. WT tracks streamflow trends with an eye to the impacts on drinking water supply and quality in each of the state's watersheds. USGS Provisional Data Statement
Data are provisional and subject to revision until they have been thoroughly reviewed and received final approval. Current condition data relayed by satellite or other telemetry are automatically screened to not display improbable values until they can be verified.
Provisional data may be inaccurate due to instrument malfunctions or physical changes at the measurement site. Subsequent review based on field inspections and measurements may result in significant revisions to the data.
