Flood Tracker provisional data from USGS streamflow monitors
One hundred and forty eight streamflow gauges record flooding in the USA Saturday, down from one hundred and fifty nine Friday night. WT tracks the nation's most common natural disaster dynamics through New York, Ohio, Georgia and Louisiana. As of this report we are watching 38 monitors indicating active flooding: 15 in Georgia, 12 in Louisiana, 11 in Ohio. As of this report, New York has 12 high flows in the west, 21 high flows on the east side including Long Island, no active flooding recorded. More to follow.
In Ohio, eleven locations record above flood stage. In the Lake Erie drainage basin, Tiffin River is flooding again at Stryker, Auglaize River is still flooding at Fort Jenkins and Maumee River is still flooding at Waterville. Ottawa, Portage and Black Rivers are back in their channels Saturday. Heading east to the Ohio River and tributaries, Eagle Creek floods on at Phalanx Station, Ohio River is flooding at Cumberland lock and dam, at Pike Island lock and dam, at Marietta and Point Pleasant West Virginia. In central Ohio, Scioto River is flooding in the lower basin at Circleville, Muskingum tributary Killbuck Creek is flooding at Killbuck. New York State: Schoharie Creek was flooding at Gilboa Friday afternoon, Sacandaga River was flooding at Hope, East Branch Ausable River was flooding at Au Sable Forks last night, all back in the channels Saturday.
Georgia, Day 38 of continuous flooding, fifteen monitored sites are overflowing their channels Saturday. Pearl River continues to run over the channel at the Town of Pearl River. Updates to the map are in progress. More to follow.
See black tags on the map for active flood, blue for high flow, 99th percentile or more.
As many drinking water facilities are supplied from surface water reservoirs, the streamflow situation is pertinent to both drinking water supply and quality. High flows can stir up sediment and cause turbidity in the reservoirs, requiring additional treatments to render the water potable. Low flow volume is linked to warmer temperatures in the reservoir and can be an issue for water quality where HABs are present. WT tracks streamflow trends with an eye to the impacts on drinking water supply and quality in each of the state's watersheds. Check the watershed layer on the map to see the direction of flow and streamflows that may be impacting drinking water today.
