Flood Tracker provisional data from USGS streamflow monitors
One hundred and seventeen streamflow gauges record flooding in the USA Thursday afternoon, up from fifty-five Wednesday. WT tracks the nation's most common natural disaster dynamics through New York, Ohio, Georgia and Louisiana. As of this report we are watching 18 monitors indicating active flooding: 4 in Georgia, 11 in Louisiana and 3 in Ohio. New York has no flooding recorded as of this report, coastal flood watch is in effect overnight, more to follow.

In Ohio, the Muskingum River is still flooding near Coshocton, chugging along at a steady nine inches above flood stage with no sign of letting up. Since the last update, Tuscarawas River has breached flood stage below Dover Dam near Dover, running slightly over at this update. Stillwater Creek breached flood stage again just past the noon hour today at Uhrichsville, currently running a hair over flood stage. Eighteen stations record 99th percentile flows across the state late Thursday afternoon, nine in the Great Miami basin, 2 in Scioto basin, 3 in Muskingum basin and 4 in Lake Erie basin.

New York State: Swan River monitor continues to signal above 99th percentile at East Patchogue on Long Island and Cazenovia Creek has reached 99th percentile again at Ebenezer. Coastal flood advisory in effect overnight, more to follow here.

Georgia, Day 36 of continuous flooding: Alabaha River breached flood stage at GA203 near Blackshear over the noon hour today turning three monitored floods into four for Georgia. Little Satilla River is back to flooding near Offerman; flood stage was breached around 10 am and water level is still on a steep upward climbing trend. Savannah River jumped back out of the box near Cylo this morning around 630 am. Satilla River had been coming down steadily for days, it looked like the flooding could have ended until the recent rain event spiked water levels sharply upward. Satilla runs approximately four inches above minor flood stage at Atkinson, according to the USGS provisional data.

Eleven stations record flooding in Louisiana Thursday as a powerful storm system sweeps up the east side of the continent pushing high winds and heavy rains to the Great Lakes tonight. Bayou Dorcheat started to rise in the wee hours of April 9, flood stage was breached before noon and the flood waters have been rising ever since, currently running five feet four inches above minor flood stage near Springhill, also flooding downstream Minden. Caddo Lake is flooding near Mooringsport and Bayou Bodcau is up more than five feet over flood stage near Shreveport, all in Region 1 watershed. Sabine River is flooding the west border at Logansport and near Bon Wier, TX in Region 4 watershed. Bayou Anococo, Bundick Creek, Calcasieu River and Bayou des Cannes are flooding in Region 4. Pearl River is back to flooding at the Town of Pearl River.

See black tags on the map for active flood, blue for high flow, 99th percentile or more.

As many drinking water facilities are supplied from surface water reservoirs, the streamflow situation is pertinent to both drinking water supply and quality. High flows can stir up sediment and cause turbidity in the reservoirs, requiring additional treatments to render the water potable. Low flow volume is linked to warmer temperatures in the reservoir and can be an issue for water quality where HABs are present. WT tracks streamflow trends with an eye to the impacts on drinking water supply and quality in each of the state's watersheds. Check the watershed layer on the map to see the direction of flow and streamflows that may be impacting drinking water today.

USGS Provisional Data Statement
Data are provisional and subject to revision until they have been thoroughly reviewed and received final approval. Current condition data relayed by satellite or other telemetry are automatically screened to not display improbable values until they can be verified.
Provisional data may be inaccurate due to instrument malfunctions or physical changes at the measurement site. Subsequent review based on field inspections and measurements may result in significant revisions to the data.
Data users are cautioned to consider carefully the provisional nature of the information before using it for decisions that concern personal or public safety or the conduct of business that involves substantial monetary or operational consequences. Information concerning the accuracy and appropriate uses of these data or concerning other hydrologic data may be obtained from the USGS.
