Drinking Water Advisories
East Liverpool - A precautionary boil order remains in effect for customers on Walnut Street and any other residents affected by the water outage Thursday. The loss of pressure calls for a BWA as a precaution, in case of microbiological contamination. This BWA applies until further notice.
Jackson County - Wellston City Public Water System issued a BWA yesterday for customers connecting on South Ohio Ave between 11th and 12th St; East 12th St between Ohio and Pennsylvania Ave; and East 10th St between Pennsylvania Ave and the dead end. The advisory also includes the Speedway and the American Legion. No cause is given for the boil order.
Wellston City water supplies a total of 7000 residential customers through 2275 combined-type metered connections, residential and wholesale. Raw water is sourced from Wellston City impoundment, from Lake Alma, Lake Rupert and Little Raccoon Creek. Alternate supply is available via groundwater wells.
Streamflow Situation provisional data supplied by USGS
As Ohio drinking water facilities are supplied from surface water bodies including lakes, rivers and reservoirs, the streamflow situation is pertinent to both drinking water supply and quality. High flows can stir up sediment and cause turbidity in the raw source water, requiring additional treatment to render the water potable. Low flow volume is linked to shallower conditons and warmer temperatures in surface water bodies, which can be an issue for water quality where HABs are present.
WTOH.us tracks current streamflow conditions with an eye to the impacts on drinking water supply and quality in 32 watersheds of the state's 5 drainage basins. Check the watershed layer on the map to see the high and low streamflows that may be impacting drinking water water in Ohio today.
In the Lake Erie basin, Portage River knocked off flooding around 11 am Saturday morning. In the Muskingum River Basin, West Fork Duck Creek is no longer flooding at Macksburg and Little Muskingum River is no longer flooding near Bloomfield.
Streamflows are normal to much above normal statewide Saturday, no active flooding, no extreme high or low flows as of this report.
Drought Map USGS 7-day average streamflow against seasonal average
The recent storms have filled the creeks and river channels of Ohio enough to clear the drought map for the weekend. Upper Ohio Mahoning River is no longer rated below normal, the drought map of Ohio is M-T. Good news for ducks, and farms.
Harmful Algal Blooms - Lake Erie HAB from National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) satellite monitoring program
The latest image from NCCOS was captured March 14 at a surface wind speed 11.6 mph. The image is completely cloud obscured. The previous image, March 13 is partially cloud obscured, wind speed 14.5 mph is too high for a reliable estimate of any HABs observed. Likewise, where no HAB is observed we cannot be certain the bloom is not submerged and out of view.
Localized HABs appeared in the March 12 image along the Michigan shore near Monroe, matching 100 thousand cells per 100 ml.

DAMAGE SURVEYS PLANNED TODAY...Due to recent severe weather across our area, the National Weather
Service in Wilmington plans to conduct storm damage surveys today. These surveys are in relation to severe thunderstorms that moved through the area during the afternoon and evening hours of Thursday, March 14.
Areas that are expected to be surveyed include:
- Darke/Miami Counties, Ohio
- Mercer/Auglaize Counties, Ohio
- Logan County, Ohio
- Delaware/Licking Counties, Ohio
A final assessment, including results of the surveys, will be compiled and transmitted via Public Information Statement later today. The results will also be available on our website at
