Clean Water Act Conviction Fiscal Year 2012; Case ID# CR_2262 (Connecticut)
Crew member convicted, fined for waste dumping in Connecticut harbour

The defendant in this case was a crew member aboard the marine vessel described simply by name, Jesse D. In January and February 2007, Jesse D and crew rested in the Stamford Harbor.

During this same time, a spill of contaminants was reported to the US Coast Guard. Inspectors determined a spill of "wastewater slops, diesel fuel and oil" had originated with Jesse D. US EPA Criminal Investigations Division assisted in identifying the crew member responsible for handling and disposition of waste, and the volume of contaminants released, 13,500 gallons.

The defendant plead guilty to a single count violation of the CWA, Section 33 - negligent discharge of oil into, or upon the navigable waters of the United States, in such quantities as may be harmful.

Sentencing was limited to a federal fine and special assessment fee, no probation or restitution was ordered in this case.
