OEPA issues "Do not use" water advisory for Howard Marsh Toledo Metropark

Ohio EPA issued a Do not use order for the Howard Marsh Toledo Metropark last month following three consecutive water samples containing e.coli. Normally e.coli in the water test is remedied with disinfection, however repeated follow up testing shows continued presence of e.coli, prompting the Do not use order, issued January 23. The park operates a non-community public drinking water system for 250 persons or less with active permit OH4846317. Raw water is sourced from a groundwater well in the Lower Maumee River watershed.

Located in the municpality of Curtice, Jerusalem Township of Lucas County, the 1000-acre restoration project turned a working farm back to an ecological superstar otherwise known as a wetland. Visitors enjoy miles of canoeing, kayaking, hiking and biking trails with opportunity to encounter more than 230 species of wild birds.

For more information, call (419) 407-9714
The park is open from 7 a.m. until dark every day

Safe Drinking Water Act Advisories

Troy City serves 26305 residents from a groundwater well source in the Upper Great Miami River watershed. According to EPA records, the last sanitary survey inspection of the facility was completed by OEPA in May 2022. Recommendations were made for finished water storage, operator compliance and source. In the last twelve quarters, non-compliance noted seven times, Consumer Confidence Rule violations have since been resolved.

See WTOH.us Serious Violator list, here.

The Safe Drinking Water Act protects public health through the administration and delivery of quality drinking water supplies across the USA. The US EPA establishes standards for drinking water, monitors and enforces treatment techniques for surface water and groundwater, sets maximum limits for around 100 contaminants ensuring public disclosure of deviations and discrepancies.

WaterToday opens the record books of the federal drinking water regulator to bring awareness to the local raw water supply and the compliance record of licensed water treatment facilities. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency administers oversight for 4,210 licensed and active public drinking water facilities in Ohio, reporting the results to the EPA. Check back here for drinking water news and alerts as they arise.

Public water systems provide water for human consumption to at least 15 service connections or 25 average people per day for at least 60 days per year. This page displays the basic information for the selected public water system, including information about its sources of water, population served, annual operating period, service connections, etc.
