Hancock County: Some addresses in Findlay were under BWA late last week and over the weekend following repair to a water main. Addresses in the 1700 and 1800 block of Lima Ave, 2000 block Carlin Street and 1700 block of Gay Avenue were impacted. Findlay City water serves 54,040 residents plus commercial customers from a surface water source in Blanchard River watershed. The facility was last inspected in June 2024 with recommendations for Distribution, Finished Water Storage, Pumps, Source and Treatment. This facility has no serious violations of the SDWA, however there are ongoing non-compliance issues concerning the Consumer Confidence Rule, dating back to 2019.
Mahoning County: The cold weather last week had Ohio Water crews responding all over Mahoning County, including Canfield. Canfield City Public Water System endured six water main breaks disrupting service to customers on Callahan Road, Scott Street, Hood Drive at Fairground Boulevard, Wadsworth Street at West Main, and North Broad Street at Hilltop Boulevard. All impacted customers were under a boil water advisory on the weekend. Canfield City supplies 7767 residents plus businesses with treated surface water purchased from another licensed facility in the Mahoning River watershed. There are no serious SDWA violations on record as of the last audited reporting period, ended Sep 30, 2024. EPA notes this facility in non-compliance with the Consumer Confidence rule in each of the last twelve quarterly reporting cycles.
Hardin County: McGuffey Village had its water customers on Courtright St. boiling their tap water following a line break during last week's cold snap. McGuffey Village advises the repairs were completed and BWA lifted as of Friday last week. Ohio EPA has McGuffey Village listed with a Do not Drink - Sensitive Persons advisory for fluoride above the Maximum Contaminant Level since Mar 2016.
McGuffey Village operates one of thirty licensed drinking water facilities in Hardin County. The Village supplies potable water to 710 residents from a groundwater source in the Upper Scioto River watershed. The facility does not have serious SDWA violations on the record, however the US EPA does note non-compliance with the SDWA Consumer Confidence Rule ongoing since Feb 2020. Ohio EPA has McGuffey Village listed on its Public Drinking Water Advisory list for fluoride above 2 mg/L. According to Ohio EPA, the fluoride level was 2.38 mg/L when last tested, 2/27/2024. Public notice of the Do not Drink advisory was given via posting at the town hall and with hand delivered notices in November 2024, that children under nine should be provided with alternative sources of drinking water or water that has been treated to remove fluoride in order to lessen the risk of cosmetic discoloration of their permanent teeth. Fluoride testing will occur again in 2027.
The new quarterly stats are out from EPA, Ohio has 41 drinking water facilities on the latest Serious Violator list, see the updated list, here.
