NWS: Urgent Weather Message - wrap water pipes for the 24 below zero wind chill

Urgent Weather Message issued by NWS Cleveland at 956 am Mon Jan 20
COLD WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM EST WEDNESDAY...

Very cold wind chills as low as 24 below zero expected for portions of north central, northeast, and northwest Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania until 10 AM EST Wednesday. The cold wind chills as low as 24 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Temperatures this morning are in the single digits for most with wind chill values as low as 20 below zero.

Low temperatures tonight into Tuesday morning will be in the range of 5 above to 5 below zero with wind chill values as low as 20 below zero. Low temperatures Tuesday night into Wednesday morning will be the coldest of the stretch, ranging from zero to 12 below zero. Wind chill values will be as cold as 24 below zero, but could trend colder. Lingering cold with sub zero wind chills could continue through Wednesday night.

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.

To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly.

Keep humans and pets indoors as much as possible.

Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

Safe Drinking Water Advisories
Washington County: City of Belpre issued a system-wide BWA following a water main break on Lee Street Friday. The incident dripped water pressure to the entire City of Belpre, impacting all connections. City of Belpre serves potable water to a population of 6441 residents plus local business connections from a groundwater source in an Upper Ohio River minor tributary watershed.
