High water levels for New Year's Day, central Ohio recovered from drought
Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS river monitoring sites in Ohio
Much above seasonal water levels are read statewide New Year's Day with three stations reporting extreme high 99th percentile water levels. There is no active flooding on record in the network, and no low flows. See the front page map for the high flows, marked in blue.
The drought map continues to release watersheds, Muskingum River basin is moving out of dry mode with just two watersheds remaining, moderate drought still afflicting Wills Creek, Guernsey County, and Little Muskingum River watershed is still rated below normal. In the Ohio River minor tributaries, Wheeling Creek watershed remains in severe drought through Belmont, east Harrison and Jefferson Counties. Little Beaver Creek, Shade River and Raccoon-Symmes watersheds remain below normal.
Overcast and 34 degrees at Marion Municipal Airport, a 30% chance of snow showers starting late afternoon, mainly before 4pm. The day will not get any warmer, the expected high under cloudy skies is 33 degrees, coming with a west wind around 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Snow may accumulate up to half an inch.
Light snow with fog-mist and 33 degrees the conditions in south Ohio as observed at Airborne Airpark Airport. NWS Wilmington is forecasting scattered flurries for New Year's Day with a slight chance of snow showers, the high near 35, a west wind 18 to 20 mph.

Light accumulating snow is likely late tomorrow (Thursday) night into Friday morning, which may impact the Friday morning commute. Accumulations should generally be around an inch, with slightly higher totals possible north of the Ohio River.
Wintry precipitation will be possible Sunday into Monday. Travel impacts due to winter weather may be possible during
this time period.
