Christmas Day Report

Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS river monitoring sites in Ohio
Fog and mist, 38 degrees at Marion Municipal Airport, high 39 under cloudy skies. A 30% chance of showers this afternoon, mainly after 3, no more than a tenth of an inch. Tonight, showers are possible, 30% chance for another tenth between 9 and midnight. NWS Wilmington is currently reporting fog and mist, 43 degrees, with an expectation of rain later this afternoon, 60% likely to get less than a tenth of an inch today after 3. Tonight, 60% chance of rain before 7, another tenth is possible.

Central Ohio dips lower in the streamflow volume again, the band of below normal to low flows extends from the west state line to the Ohio River on the east state border. The northwest Lake Erie drainage basin is likewise below seasonal normal. The northeast Lake Erie basin is recording seasonal normal streamflows, the percentile of most rated stations showing in the low range of normal, below 50th percentile. Southwest streamflows are mostly normal, this is the lower end of the Great Miami River watershed. A closer look at these normal ratings shows the percentile in the lower end of normal, below 50th percentile. Drought is creeping back in from the northwest, the expansion of the below normal rating now extending from St Josephs River watershed to adjacent Tiffin River watershed. Severe drought remains on Wheeling Creek watershed, an Ohio River minor tributary in the east-central area, taking in Belmont, southeast Harrison and south Jefferson Counties. Wills Creek watershed remains in moderate drought, impacting Guernsey County in the Muskingum River drainage basin of central Ohio. As of this report, there are no extreme high or 1st percentile flows, and no flooding in the reference network.
