Drizzle in the north, rain in the south

Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS river monitoring sites in Ohio
Fog, 36 degrees at Marion Municipal Airport, patchy drizzle expected until 10 am, heading for a cloudy day in the north, high 34. NWS Wilmington is reporting rain, 41 degrees with showers continuing until 1pm. The remainder of the day will be cloudy, high near 45, north wind gusting up to 15 mph. The trend is for lower water levels statewide, the seasonal normal readings are shifting down below normal. Drought remains in three out of 32 watersheds. Severe drought through Ohio River minor tributary Wheeling Creek watershed, covering Belmont, southeast Harrison and south Jefferson Counties. Adjacent Wills Creek watershed in the Muskingum River basin remains at moderate drought, impacting Guernsey County. St Josephs River watershed remains below normal in the Lake Erie basin, impacting Williams County. As of this report, there are no extreme high or 1st percentile flows, and no flooding in the reference network.

Safe Drinking Water Act
Logan County: Bellefontaine experienced a BWA last week impacting Prospect Avenue, part of Paul Street and part of South Main Street. City of Bellefontaine Public Water System serves 14000 residents from a groundwater source in the Upper Great Miami watershed. According to the 2023 Annual Water Report, the groundwater aquifer supplying the City of Bellefontaine's west well field is rated highly susceptible to contamination.
  • Water quality results indicate impacts of volatile organic compounds.
  • The carbonate aquifer has a relatively shallow depth to water, in most areas less than 30 feet below the ground surface.
  • The topography is relatively flat, allowing for most of the recharge to infiltrate into the ground instead of running off.
  • Potential contaminant sources exist within the protection area
Susceptible aquifers require extra care, the impact of hazardous materials spills is more serious, industry and residents in the area are urged to use caution when disposing of potential contaminants.
