Bellefontaine BWA
Safe Drinking Water Act
Logan County: Bellefontaine ended up with a BWA last week Thursday Dec 19 affecting all the addresses on Prospect Avenue, 1304 Paul Street and 1405 South Main Street. City of Bellefontaine Public Water System serves 14000 residents from a groundwater source in the Upper Great Miami watershed. According to the 2023 Annual Water Report, the groundwater aquifer supplying the City of Bellefontaine's west well field is rated highly susceptible to contamination.
- Water quality results indicate impacts of volatile organic compounds.
- The carbonate aquifer has a relatively shallow depth to water, in most areas less than 30 feet below the ground surface.
- The topography is relatively flat, allowing for most of the recharge to infiltrate into the ground instead of running off.
- Potential contaminant sources exist within the protection area
