Drought relief for the interior
Streamflow Situation from the network of USGS river monitoring sites in Ohio
Record high water levels in the Muskingum and Great Miami River basins Tuesday morning and above seasonal normal flows throughout the interior have already made significant changes to the drought picture for Ohio. Tributary Wolf Creek is measured provisionally at a record high level for this date near Dayton, more than two and a half feet deep. In the Muskingum River basin, the North Fork Licking River is also posting a record high water level, 9 ft deep at Utica. These flows are 97th percentile for all dates that water levels have been recorded at these locations.
Most other streamflow monitors are recording seasonal normal to above normal with a dozen locations above the 90th percentile statewide. Wheeling Creek watershed remains with severe drought, this impacts Belmont, southeast Harrison and south Jefferson Counties. St Josephs River watershed in the northwest has been relieved of moderate drought, now rated below normal as the adjacent watersheds in the Lake Erie basin, northwest Ohio. Cleveland forecast office reports fair conditions, 42 degrees heading for a mostly sunny day with a high 44. Showers are likely tomorrow, a 60% chance of rain coming before 2 pm, no more than a tenth of an inch expected.
On this day in weather history, 1984 broke records for high temperatures in five out of six monitoring sites across Ohio. 1989 brought the low temperature record for this date, Youngstown still holds that record at -10F. See the details of record high and low temps, record rainfall.
