Streamflow Situation from the USGS network of streamflow monitors in Ohio
Flow levels recorded through north and central Ohio are picking up to seasonal normal with the south remaining below normal for this time of year. Rain in the forecast today is not expected to cause flooding. The drought map has been shifting daily, severe drought still with the Hocking River watershed through Hocking and Athens Counties, now the adjacent Ohio River minor tributary Racoon-Symmes is tagged with severe drought while Shade River is recovered from severe drought status to below normal rating. Tygarts watershed has dropped into moderate drought in the south, the watershed adjacent to severely dry Racoon-Symmes in west Lawrence and east Scioto Counties. Significant area of the central drainage basins are below normal on both sides of the height-of-land divide, including Muskingum and Scioto basins, and a third of the Lake Erie drainage basin. No extremes high or low measured in the streamflow network as of this report.

WT HAB Tracker
from the satellite monitoring program of the NOAA National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science(NCCOS) and State sources where available

Lake Erie west basin
The latest picture of west basin Lake Erie was captured August 30 at wind speed 8.1 mph. This image is clear, showing the main HAB mass taking up much less of the west basin than previous images, possibly owing to the higher wind speed causing some of the bloom area to escape detection by the imaging equipment. Maumee Bay at Toledo and widespread in the State Park runs 1 to 3 million cells per ml concentration. No HAB activity is visible east of Magee Marsh Wildlife Refuge until Sandusky Bay, the special cyanobacteria here is filling inner and outer bay area with a concentration around 700 thousand cells per ml. See the Lake Erie HAB here.

Safe Drinking Water Advisories
Noble County: A water main break on Jefferson Drive in Caldwell brought about a Boil Water Advisory for the Village on Wednesday. Village of Caldwell water system serves 3300 residents from a surface water source in Caldwell Lake and Wolf Run Lake. According to US EPA Enforcement and Compliance History Online, Caldwell Village Public Water System had an inspection in February 2024, has two matters of non-compliance in the last 12 quarters, a recent issue with Consumer Confidence as yet unaddressed.
