WT USA Flows and Flood Tracker provisional data from the network of USGS streamflow monitors
Memorial Day weekend 2024 sees forty-three river floodings recorded on the national network, up from forty-two sites flooding yesterday. Nine flood events are monitored in the WT coverage area, four in Georgia, and five in Louisiana.
Georgia: The same four river flood events ongoing in south Georgia into the weekend, Satilla River is up overnight, gathering in the surface runoff from 2790 square miles in the Atlantic basin, including a flooding tributary, Little Satilla is still observed out of the channel near Offerman. Satilla River runs two feet four inches above flood stage at Atkinson Saturday morning. Gulf of Mexico basin's Withlachoochee River floods on at US84 near Quitman, close to two feet over near Pinetta, FL. See black tags indicating flow volume and gauge height, flows updated daily here.
Louisiana Bayou Bodcau is down to less than a foot of flooding Saturday near Shreveport, the lowest level seen here in many weeks. Region 4 watershed Calcasieu River floods seven to eight inches over the channel near Glenmora, border Sabine River flooding continues near Ruliff, TX. Region 5 watershed Mermentau River runs an inch over flood stage, this could be over today. In Region 7, Pearl River flooding continues at the Town of Pearl River, just under a foot of flood flow above the channel. As many drinking water facilities are supplied from surface water reservoirs, the streamflow situation is pertinent to both drinking water supply and quality. High flows can stir up sediment and cause turbidity in the reservoirs, requiring additional treatments to render the water potable. Low flow volume is linked to warmer temperatures in the reservoir and can be an issue for water quality where HABs are present. WT tracks streamflow trends with an eye to the impacts on drinking water supply and quality in each of the state's watersheds. USGS Provisional Data Statement
Data are provisional and subject to revision until they have been thoroughly reviewed and received final approval. Current condition data relayed by satellite or other telemetry are automatically screened to not display improbable values until they can be verified.
Provisional data may be inaccurate due to instrument malfunctions or physical changes at the measurement site. Subsequent review based on field inspections and measurements may result in significant revisions to the data.
