BWA issued for Weirton-Steubenville
Drinking Water Advisories
- Weirton - Jefferson County - Little Beaver Creek watershed - BWA issued by Weirton Water Board on Sep 20 for Forest Road, Greenlawn Boulevard, Scenic Road and Meadowbrook Lane following line repairs in the area. The order also affects any other water customers in the vicinity experiencing low or no water pressure.
HABs update from National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science satellite monitoring program for West Basin Lake Erie
Sep 20 image acquired Sep 21 shows a thin band of algal bloom along the shoreline from Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge east shore east to the west side of Catawba Island - concentration matches the color scale for 100 to 200 thousand cells per 100 ml. Maumee Bay area image is mostly cloud obscured - a patch of algal bloom is visible along the Michigan shore matches the color scale at 600 thousand cells per 100 ml.
Sandusky Bay bloom occupies approximately one third of the water from Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area to Bayview and more than half the water body from Bayview to Cedar Point. The inner bay bloom mass matches the color scale indicating concentration of 700 to 800 thousand cells per 100 ml - the outer bay bloom appears slightly higher concentration 800 to 900 thousand cells per 100 ml
Lake Erie bloom on the open water side of Sandusky Bay Cedar Point has narrowed to less than ten miles wide running along shore to the Vermilion River outlet
Monitoring season has ended for e.coli and HABs in recreational waters.
Long term Recreational Public Health Advisories remain active on 4 Grand Lake beaches in St Marys River watershed show microcystins values ranging from 1.8 to 17.2 ug/L in samples taken Sep 11
As of Thursday, five Lake Erie beaches remain on the active advisory list at Ohio BeachGuard for bacterial contamination including:
- Beulah Beach
- Heidelberg Beach
, Main Street, Nokomis, Sherod Park
Camp Dennison and Izaak Walton League at Loveland remain active bacterial contamination advisories - see HABs button to the right of the map for details
Streamflow Situation
USGS streamflow gages reporting mostly normal throughout the state with higher than normal flow at the Old Woman Creek and lower than normal flows on the Olentangy River at Worthington and Auglaize River near Defiance. There are currently no stations recording flows above the 99th percentile in Ohio.
